Going back to Gettysburg

I am being called to visit.

Okay, I think the Fall is another good time to re-visit the battlefield and do some research again. This trip I need to walk every inch of the Wheatfield and Stony Hill. I am being called by 'higher' powers. I will also try to head down to Antietam again. I haven't been there in awhile so it is about time. Now that I have it all worked out in my head I'm excited to leave.... tomorrow! Are we there yet?! No? Rats!

Oh hey one last thing.... do not hesitate to leave comments. Not many do and.... well... I like to read stuff like that. Don't be shy now... go on you can do it.  Thanks.

  1. I have a question - I am looking to buy a replica of a ACW rifle and a colt pistol. They're going to hang on my wall for display - what vendor would you recommend?

  2. You can try these:

    Regimental Quartermaster

    www.regtqm.com/

    Fall Creek Suttlery

    fcsutler.com/

    S & S Sutler of Gettysburg

    www.ss-sutler.com/

If you just want to hang one on the wall I'd go with a used weapon though. The sutlers generally sell new stuff and a new rifle goes for about $400 plus. Try eBay or ask the sutlers (there are lots of them just Google civil war sutlers) if they have used weapons for sale. Reenactors come and go all the time so you can get used stuff cheaper. You can also attend CW group meetings and ask if someone knows of used and possibly unserviceable weapons for sale by members.

    Good luck.

  3. Google Dixie Gun Works. They carry a lot of repro ACW firearms.

    Don,
I just discovered your blog and I will be following it. Did you give up on the WACW project you were working on?

  4. Scott,

Yes and no. I have kind of given up on the WACW project because FW has given up. I am still writing and testing the rules though. They don't own it because no money has changed hands. I am shopping it around but not as actively as some might hope. I still have a lot to do on it. Well... the infantry and artillery are 92% done. The cavalry mounted is good but the fly in the ointment is still and has been dismounted cav and skirmishers. I have not found a suitable way to handle skirmishers/ dismounted cav yet to my satisfaction. Other than that things are going very well. I will be using my rules for the big Gettysburg game mentioned in earlier posts.

    Thanks for reading.
